Love Studio/Love Live
Tue, 12 Aug 1997 13:11:06 -0400

Even though Arthur Lee got the producer credit on the "Studio/Live" lp on MCA he had very little to do with the production of the album.
As a matter of fact, he never even showed up at the MCA Whitney recording studio where the editing, mixing and mastering were taking place.

I can say with great certainty that the live tracks came from the Fillmore East show.
The multi-tracks ( 8 track) from these recordings, and track sheets, all had the dates and place of recording on them.
The quality was very poor and it took a lot of electronic help to get them to sound halfway decent.
More material remains in the MCA vaults, but will probably never see the light of day.

All the edits to the studio sides were done by myself.

I hope this helps in answering some questions about this album.

Cheers,

Leon Tsilis

Torben,

Thanks for getting back to me.

In answer to your question, and to the best of my recollection, all the boxes were marked with the same date as were the track sheets.
Being a stickler for detail, I would have included information otherwise on the albums liner notes.

While compiling the "Love Studio/Love Live" tracks, I searched through and listened to everything that was there, either on 8, 16 or 24 track multi-tracks.
There are still some live unmixed recordings from the Fillmore show that were not used on the lp due to the length of the lp.
I just went ahead and mixed down the best performances & put the rest back in the can.

One other thing of note. While listening the multi-tracks of the "False Start" recordings I noticed on the track sheet where Hendrix's guitar parts were laid down.
On other recordings from the same album where that track was listed the guitar had been erased of the sheet. When listening to the tracks and opening up the slider for the guitars that weren't supposed to be there, there are guitar parts that sounded very much like Hendrix.
I went back to my bosses at MCA at the time with this information and was turned down about releasing this find. The tapes remain in MCA's vaults.

I don't know David and I've never seen his magazine, but if you want to pass the information on feel free to use it.

Cheers,
Leon Tsilis
